On Sunday night we talked about faith and faithfulness. The challenge was to take a leap of faith in your life, to do something for God that is not reasonable, but you are called to nonetheless. Maybe for you this can be as simple as offering up a prayer even though you have a hard time believing you are even praying to anybody. Or it can be bold action steps, like talking to a friend about your faith, or changing some bad habits from your life.
Think about the faith of Noah, Moses and Elijah. Noah believed God would send a massive flood, and acted on that faith. Moses believed God could bring water out of a rock, and also acted on that belief. Elijah believed God was the one true God, and so was not surprised to find a pitcher of water next to him in the middle of the wilderness. All three men believed, acted, and found water in the strangest of places. Think about that as you watch this video:

Lent: Week I
Last night we started into our new series, focusing on Lent. Specifically, we looked at Jesus' foray into the wilderness, as well as those wild desert fathers, and tried to learn what any of this has to do with us.
The three themes we are following as a ministry for this season of Lent, based on both the fathers and Jesus' time in the wilderness, are solitude, silence and prayer. Let this be a reminder to you to seek out quiet places where you won't be disturbed in the weeks to come, specifically with the goal of praying and seeking God.
Also, let us know how this is going for you!
Lastly, here's the video we showed on Sunday night if you want to watch it again:

Poverty Overnighter Follow-up
Last Sunday night we had the first ever 3D Poverty Awareness Overnighter. It was a blast, and we want to say thanks to everyone who came and participated!
How has the weekend impacted your life? Has anything you have seen or happened to you since then made you think back to what we talked about? Has your daily life changed at all? Or how you think? Let us know!

The James Nachtwey Video
On the Sunday night of January 6th Shauna showed us this video of a presentation given by photographer James Nachtwey for ted. Afterwards we looked at some passages from the book of James, reminding us that faith without works is dead, and that the church should not show favoritism towards the wealthy over the poor.
Having had a few days to process this information, What are your thoughts about all of this?

Sunday, January 20th
3D will not have a regular meeting on Sunday, January 20th. Instead, they will be going to Faith Lutheran Church to learn from and talk with Dr. Vincent Harding. It starts at 1 and ends at 4. You can meet us there (it is on the corner of McLeod and Northwest), or there will be vans leaving from Christ the King at 11:30. The vans are leaving early to get lunch first, so bring money for a fast-food lunch. We will be back at CTK by 4:30.
